The time travellers escape the Master's clutches, but the Doctor's regeneration is failing, and Adric goes missing in the depths of the TARDIS. Only Nyssa and Tegan can save the day, steering the timeship towards the city of Castrovalva, renowned for its healing powers. But evil lurks at the heart of this rural paradise ... BackgroundDoctor Who was a Saturday teatime institution for the BBC, and had been since the show's inception in 1963. But in 1981, all that was to change as it was decided to move Doctor Who into uncharted territory. Starting in January 1982 with Peter Davison's debut story Castrovalva, Doctor Who would be broadcast twice weekly, in a mid-week, early evening slot. It was a brave and successful gamble. Although on screen for only three months a year [instead of the usual six], ratings picked up dramatically. In addition, Davison was a very bankable name after the success of All Creatures Great and Small, and as he debuted in Doctor Who, he could also be seen headlining two other TV comedy series - Holding the Fort for ITV, and Sink or Swim for the BBC. Never before had the actor playing the Doctor been so visible on the television audience. In a new timeslot and introducing a new Doctor, Castrovalva saw a national institution rejuvenated for an exciting new era in the show's history. | ||
