The Cure sind eine englische Rockband, die 1976 in Crawley gegründet wurde. Die Band erlebte mehrere Besetzungswechsel, wobei Sänger, Gitarrist und Haupt-Songwriter Robert Smith das einzige konstante Mitglied war. Die aktuellen Mitglieder sind Robert Smith, Simon Gallop, Roger O'Donnell, Jason Cooper und Reeves Gabrels.
The Cure begannen Ende der 1970er Jahre mit der Veröffentlichung von Musik mit ihrem Debütalbum Three Imaginary Boys (1979); Dies und mehrere frühe Singles machten die Band zu einem Teil der Post-Punk- und New-Wave-Bewegungen, die im Zuge der Punkrock-Revolution im Vereinigten Königreich entstanden waren. In den frühen 1980er Jahren war die immer düsterere und gequältere Musik der Band (sowie Smiths Bühnenauftritt) ein Grundpfeiler des aufkommenden Musikstils Gothic Rock. |
