The Cure est un groupe de rock anglais formé à Crawley en 1976. Le groupe a connu plusieurs changements de line-up, le chanteur, guitariste et auteur-compositeur principal Robert Smith étant le seul membre constant. Les membres actuels sont Robert Smith, Simon Gallop, Roger O'Donnell, Jason Cooper et Reeves Gabrels.
The Cure a commencé à sortir de la musique à la fin des années 1970 avec son premier album Three Imaginary Boys (1979) ; ceci, ainsi que plusieurs premiers singles, place le groupe dans le cadre des mouvements post-punk et new wave qui ont surgi à la suite de la révolution punk rock au Royaume-Uni. Au début des années 1980, la musique de plus en plus sombre et tourmentée du groupe (ainsi que le look scénique de Smith) était un incontournable du style de musique émergent connu sous le nom de rock gothique. |
