But once there they face danger involving a newly-regenerated Master and a feisty young air hostess called Tegan Jovanka. How can the people of the distant and mysterious planet Logopolis help? And just who is the strange, ghostly figure watching the Doctor's every move ... ? BackgroundThe middle story in the trilogy featuring the Master, Logopolis had the difficult job of bringing Tom Baker's successful seven-year reign as the Doctor to an end - but the moment had been prepared for ... New producer John Nathan-Turner had already made many changes to Doctor Who: the title sequence and theme music had been updated; the lead characters Romana and K-9 were written out; and the scripts, under the watchful eye of script editor Christopher H Bidmead, became more serious than they had been in previous years. But the biggest change of all came at the end of Logopolis with the regeneration of the Fourth Doctor. A new line-up of regulars was introduced over the course of the story to help the Doctor - and the audience - through the big change. Australian actress Janet Fielding made her debut as the argumentative air hostess Tegan Jovanka, and Sarah Sutton's softer character, Myssa, who had appeared in the previous story The Keeper of Tracken, was written into Logopolis after John Nathan-Turner saw further potential in the character. Another semi-regular, who went on to make several reappearances over the following nine years, was the new Master, played by Anthony Ainley. The Master's appearance wasn't revealed until the third episode, so that viewers might think that the mysterious Watcher might have been the renegade Time Lord. The final story of the 18th season, Logopolis was all about change. And a new era with Peter Davidson, the youngest actor to take on the role, was about to begin. | ||
