| Sung by Girl Guides and Ranger Guides drawn from all parts of Britain, conducted by Hettie Smith and Marion Prior; and pupils of St. Paul's Roman Catholic School, Haywards Heath, conducted by Stella Greenhalgh. Accompaniment by TRANE, with Sally Sandifer and Dennis Long (double-basses) and children (guitars). Our record catalogue contains several LPs of relisious songs for children, most of which have been produced for us by our colleagues of BBC Schools Radio. They have one big thing in common: they all feature the voices and music of young people. Over the past months we have had many requests for more LPs of this sort of music - songs to be sung and enjoyed, songs with a message. The opportunity came at the end of a two-day recording session, during which the Girl Guide Festival of Song record and the Radio 4 programme of the Festival were being put together, when some of the groups of young people sang their favourite religious songs as a sort of impromptu finale to the sessions. Amongst these joyous singers were four very young Guides from St. Paul's Roman Catholic School, Haywards Heath, and a group of Sea Rangers from Edinburgh, whose songs can be heard on this record. The singing and the songs were so moving that the unexpected bonuses were recorded for incorperation into the Radio 4 programme devoted to the Festival. The other songs on the record are selected from BBC Schools religious broadcasts, sung here by members of the Girl Guides Association; and from Radio Brighton broadcasts made by pupils of St. Paul's School, who have also sung on 'Music for Sunday'. The professional group, Trane, who accompany the singers, consists of young people from Gibraltar whose work has been heard in BBC programmes such as Waggoner's Walk and the Terry Wogan show. Our thanks are due to everyone who took part in the production of this record which surely has the stamp of freshness and appreciation of God's simple miracles, sometimes overlooked.
