| Monty Python (ook gezamenlijk bekend als de Pythons) was een Britse surrealistische komediegroep die hun sketchcomedyshow Monty Python's Flying Circus creëerde, die voor het eerst werd uitgezonden op de BBC in 1969. Er werden vijfenveertig afleveringen gemaakt, verdeeld over vier series. Het Python-fenomeen ontwikkelde zich van de televisieserie tot iets dat qua omvang en impact groter was, waaronder rondreizende shows, films, talloze albums, verschillende boeken en musicals. De invloed van de Pythons op de komedie wordt vergeleken met de invloed van de Beatles op muziek. Hun sketchshow wordt "niet alleen een van de meer duurzame iconen van de Britse populaire cultuur van de jaren zeventig genoemd, maar ook een belangrijk moment in de evolutie van de televisiekomedie". | ||
