'By The Sword Divided' is the story of an English country family, their dependants, servants, friends and enemies, between 1640 and 1646 when Britain was plunged into the Great Civil War.

The programme stars Julian Glover, Timothy Bentinck, Sharon Mughan, Lucy Aston and Rob Edwards; the Executive Producer is John Hawkesworth; Brian Spilby the Producer, and Henry Herbert and Brian Farnham the Directors.

The music has been written by Ken Howard and Alan Blaikley whose composing credits extend from the award winning theme to 'The Flame Trees of Thika' right back to hits for artists as varied as Dave, Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich; Elvis Presley and Eartha Kitt.

Sometimes written as BBC Enterprise Ltd.
