'The Dark Side of the Sun' is a 6 part mystery by Michael J. Bird, the author of 'The Lotus Eaters', 'Who Pays the Ferryman' and the @Aphrodite Inheritance'. Once again the setting is Greece. The action is set on the island of Rhodes and concerns a photographer who goes there to illustrate a travel book. He dies in mysteries circumstances and his young and attrictive wife determines to carry on his work. This leads to an increasingly frightening series of supernatural incidents. The series stars Emily Richard, Peter Egan, Patrick Mower, Christopher Scoular and the Greek star Betty Arvaniti who will be remembered for her supurb performance in 'Who Pays the Ferryman?'.

The Producer is Vere Lorrimer and the director David Askey.

The music for the soundtrack was written by Stavros Xarhakos, one of Greece's leading composers. The music he has written springs not the sophistication of Athens but from the gritty vibrant spirit of the people of Rhodes. Here Greek bouzoukis clash with Turkish fiddles against a background of pulse-beating drums. In a series of sharp sketches Xarhakos has captured the heat and dust of the villages, the sparkle of the water and the ancient rhythm of country folk. But he has also voven into the music a handful of melodies which tug at the heart, symbolising the eternal romance of the Greek Isles.

Further information

BBC Radio Enterprises Ltd and BBC Enterprises Ltd, predecessors of BBC Worldwide / BBC Worldwide Ltd., the BBC's commercial arm. Formed 1968 and 1979 respectively, they were a subsidiary wholly owned by the BBC and merged into BBC Worldwide in 1995. In that time, there were companies set up within or structured brands as part of the company to deal with separate parts of the business, e.g. BBC Records for recorded audio. Sometimes written as BBC Enterprise Ltd.
